The Polish Prosecutor’s Office will not allow the Ukrainian side to join the investigation of last week’s incident in Przewodów near the Ukrainian border, where a likely-Ukrainian air defence missile hit and killed two people.
Polish politicians earlier declared they would be willing to invite Ukrainians to the investigation, and Kyiv expressed interest in sending its experts, but the Prosecutors’ Office now said there is no such possibility, Rzeczpospolita daily reported.
“it would be against the procedures, not to mention the interest of the investigation, in which all possible versions are examined, including that a Ukrainian air defence missile could have fallen,” it was reported.
Earlier, news about Ukrainian experts arriving in the village of Przewodów on Friday afternoon went viral in all media outlets, and it was confirmed work had started. However, no procedural actions were carried out as this would be against Polish law.
Jakub Kumoch, the Head of the International Policy Bureau in the Chancellery of the President of Poland, reported in an interview with TVN24 that a Polish-American investigation group was working in Przewodów, and Ukrainians had asked to be involved.
“If both sides agree, and, as far as I know, there will be no objection from the American side, such access can be granted in the near future,” he said.
Two people were killed in the missile explosion in Przewodów close to the Ukrainian border last Tuesday (15 November). The investigators eliminated the possibility of a deliberate attack, stating that the incident was most likely caused by an air defence Ukrainian rocket due to a human error or technical defect.
