Remarks by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov concerning an “Asian NATO” and a “strike force directed against Russia” represent an effort by the Kremlin to vindicate its hostility towards Ukraine and daunt European nations.

This was declared by the Center for Combating Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.

The Center underscored that Moscow aims to portray the conflict against Ukraine as integral to the “establishment of a fresh global order” and involve Asian countries in a multifaceted standoff with the West.

During the Eurasian security discussions, Lavrov alleged that the US was supposedly forming an “Asian NATO” and also cautioned Europe, stating that “military conflict with Russia has consistently concluded unfavorably for Europe.” He also articulated the necessity to “eliminate threats originating from the West for the long-term historical outlook.”

The CCD elucidated that through such pronouncements, the Kremlin seeks to instill trepidation among European leaders in order to diminish backing for Ukraine. Concurrently, Russia is exploiting the anxieties of Asian nations, propagating the notion that only Moscow is capable of “safeguarding” them from the West.

“All these grandiose assertions regarding the “new Eurasian security” are an attempt to garner backing for instigating a war against Ukraine, which has depleted Russia's resources,” the Center for Combating Disinformation emphasized.
