Nosy Iranja Beach, situated in Madagascar, has been recognized as the premier beach in Africa and the fourth-best beach globally in 2026. This spot outperformed celebrated resorts in Italy, Greece, Mauritius, and South Africa, even though the island nation is seldom among the most frequented tourist hotspots on the continent.

This information was provided by the Express newspaper.

The listing of the 50 top beaches worldwide for 2026 was recently unveiled. A beach in the Philippines claimed the top position on the list, while Nosy Iranja in Madagascar secured the fourth spot, concurrently earning the title of the best beach in Africa.

Even though tourists often opt for Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, or Mozambique when seeking a coastal getaway in Africa, the top beach on the continent this year is nestled in Madagascar, an island country located off the eastern coast of Africa.

The ranking characterizes Nosy Iranja as a “genuinely singular place,” comprised of two islands—Nosy Iranja Be and Nosy Iranja Keli.

The defining attribute of the beach is a two-kilometer sandy causeway that links the two islands during periods of low tide. As the water level rises, this strip of sand vanishes beneath the surface.

The report also points out that Nosy Iranja is renowned for its cerulean waters, pristine white sand, and the sea turtles that frequently build their nests along the shore.

Nosy Iranja was positioned higher than Le Morne Beach in Mauritius and Boulders Beach in South Africa.

Simultaneously, travelers are advised to exercise caution when visiting Madagascar. Guidance from the UK Foreign Office indicates that violent robberies are prevalent within the country, and foreigners are often the targets of criminal activity.

The agency indicates that incidents have transpired even during daylight hours. Tourists are encouraged to be particularly vigilant on secluded and distant beaches, to avoid traveling alone, and, where feasible, to engage the services of seasoned tour guides.

The recommendations also caution against armed robberies occurring on major roadways, particularly at night and outside of significant urban centers. Visitors are advised to utilize transportation arranged by hotels or reliable operators.

In addition, tourists are urged to steer clear of local shared taxis due to the potential for robbery. Should an assault occur, the guidelines advise against resisting, given that the assailants may be armed.

There have also been accounts of criminals impersonating police officers, so travelers are advised to verify their identification with security personnel or authentic police officers.
