“The Chancellor's program is usually published a week in advance. However, given the ongoing speculation, we would like to inform you that the Chancellor is not currently planning and has not planned an official visit to Slovakia,” the statement said.
Prime Minister Robert Fico announced Merz's visit back in April at an informal EU summit in Nicosia, Cyprus, saying it would take place by the end of May. On May 9, while returning from Moscow, where he was the sole EU representative at the Victory Day celebrations, he clarified that the visit was scheduled for May 29, according to the Slovak news resource Aktuality.
The vice-chairman of the Progressive Slovakia party and former Slovak Foreign Minister Ivan Korčok announced at a press conference that Merz's previously planned visit to Slovakia will not take place. According to him, the reason for the cancellation was Fico's visit to Russia.
