The United Arab Emirates has declared that a fire broke out close to the Barakah nuclear power station subsequent to an unmanned aircraft incursion, as a further indication of escalating perils amidst a drawn-out dispute with Iran.
The Wall Street Journal conveys this information.
Per the report, the UAE’s aerial defense systems detected three UAVs traversing the nation’s western boundary. While two of the drones were intercepted, the remaining one made its way to a zone surrounding a nuclear installation.
As reported by the Emirati Ministry of Defence, the drone ignited a conflagration in an electricity generator situated beyond the protected boundary of the Barakah nuclear power station, situated about 280 km to the west of Abu Dhabi.
What the UAE authorities said
At present, authorities within the UAE are probing the source of the UAVs and the details surrounding the assault. The place from which the drones were launched has not yet been formally identified.
The Barakah NPP represents the first nuclear power facility in the Arabic-speaking world and is regarded as a fundamental component of the nation’s energy infrastructure.
