Shoigu put forward conditions for peace in Ukraine

Russia continues to put forward “conditions” for ending the war in Ukraine. For example, recently Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov emphasized territorial claims, promising “an immediate cessation of the SVO,” and now the secretary of the Russian Security Council, Sergei Shoigu, has recalled the “old” song about eliminating the “root causes” of the war.

As TASS reports, Shoigu stated that Russia did not refuse a diplomatic settlement of the “conflict”, but there are conditions – a nuclear-free and non-aligned status of Ukraine, as well as “respect for the rights of people who speak Russian.”

And Ukraine's Western partners, in his opinion, are doing everything possible to “prolong the conflict.”

At the same time, the Financial Times, citing sources familiar with the behind-the-scenes discussions of the war in Ukraine, writes that the Russian leadership is convinced that the Russian Federation has the strength to continue the offensive and gradually expand its demands at possible negotiations. And this applies not only to the “Donbas issue”, which the Kremlin constantly emphasizes. The Russians’ ambitions are much greater — these include other Ukrainian regions that the Russian Federation has called its own, and the capture of Kyiv.
