The United Arab Emirates reportedly launched military offensives on Iran, thereby becoming the sole nation aside from the United States and Israel to engage in the war against the Islamic Republic.

This information is according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.

According to press accounts referencing knowledgeable sources, the strikes, which the UAE has not openly confirmed, encompassed an assault on an oil processing facility on Iran’s Laban Island, situated in the Persian Gulf.

The publication further notes that the offensive took place in early April, coinciding with US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a cessation of hostilities, though it remains unclear whether the attack occurred prior to or subsequent to the announcement.

Iran acknowledged at that time that the site had been targeted by an unidentified adversary, subsequently responding with missile and drone incursions into the territories of the UAE and Kuwait.

The assault on Laban stands as the singular, explicitly verified instance of UAE involvement in the conflict as detailed in the report. One source also indicated that Washington welcomed Abu Dhabi’s involvement, given that other Gulf nations had opted to abstain from direct intervention in the hostilities.

The UAE Foreign Ministry chose not to comment on the Wall Street Journal’s inquiry regarding the strikes, but reiterated previous declarations asserting its entitlement to respond to assaults originating from Iran. The Pentagon also refrained from issuing a statement.

Prior to the war, the Gulf states endeavored to distance themselves from the discord, refraining from offering their bases or airspace for any attacks. However, following a sequence of Iranian assaults on energy infrastructure and airports within the region, the situation underwent a transformation. Sources suggest that Iran launched in excess of 2,800 missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles targeting the UAE.

War against Iran — latest news

Donald Trump is not expected to endorse Iran’s recent peace proposal, arguing that Tehran allegedly did not offer “a sufficiently high price,” as stated by the American leader on his own social media platform, Truth Social.

“I will promptly examine the plan that Iran has just submitted to us. Nevertheless, I find it improbable that it will gain acceptance, considering that they (the Iranian authorities – ed.) have not yet compensated adequately for their actions against humanity and the world over the past 47 years,” he expressed.

Simultaneously, Reuters reports that the novel 14-point Iranian plan incorporates demands for assurances against military aggression from the US and Israel, along with the removal of US military personnel from regions bordering Iran.

Tehran pledges to permit unrestricted passage of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, contingent upon the US lifting the naval blockade.

Iran also posits that the Americans should recognize Tehran’s entitlement to peaceful nuclear pursuits, suggesting the postponement of the nuclear matter “for a later date.”

“Within this context, discussions concerning the more intricate nuclear issue have been deferred to the concluding phase, with the aim of fostering a more propitious atmosphere,” a high-ranking Iranian official conveyed, under the condition of anonymity.

It is worth noting that on May 1, Trump informed Congress that the war with Iran had “concluded.” This action served as an attempt to justify the absence of a request to lawmakers for authorization to prolong the conflict beyond the initial 60-day period of engagement.
