According to the king, this will allow for the achievement of a “just and lasting peace.”

The monarch recalled that after September 11, NATO invoked Article 5 for the first time, and the UN Security Council acted together. The Allies have united in response to challenges over the century — in world wars, during the Cold War, and in Afghanistan. Today, he said, the same unity is needed to support Ukraine.

“In the immediate aftermath of September 11, 2001, when NATO first invoked Article 5 and the UN Security Council stood united in the face of terror, we rose to the challenge together – just as our peoples have done for over a century. Side by side through two world wars, the Cold War, Afghanistan and the defining moments of our shared security. Today, the same unwavering resolve is needed to protect Ukraine and its bravest people,” said Charles III.
