The US Navy is currently under scrutiny due to the blockade of Iranian ports. It is at this point that the Secretary of the Navy of the Trump administration is expected to resign. John Phelan is said to have fallen out with Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. According to insiders, the US Navy Secretary has been fired.
VIDEO OF THE DAY
The US Department of Defense issued a brief statement saying only that Phelan was leaving his post immediately. The Pentagon did not give a reason. Deputy Secretary of the Navy Hong Cao will temporarily take over the leadership of this branch of the armed forces, N-TV reports.
Two people familiar with the matter said Phelan was fired, among other reasons, for his slow implementation of reforms aimed at speeding up shipbuilding. He also reportedly clashed with senior Defense Department officials, including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, his deputy Steve Feinberg and Hong Cao. One of the insiders also mentioned some sort of ethics investigation into Phelan’s office.
The departure of billionaire Phelan, who is said to have close ties to US President Donald Trump, is part of a comprehensive personnel reshuffle at the Pentagon under Pete Hegseth. On April 2, the Defense Secretary fired Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George without giving reasons. According to insiders, the decision was related to tensions in the relationship between Hegseth and Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll.

Reforms aimed at accelerating shipbuilding are, apparently, Trump's idea of the possibility of building “the largest warships in history.”
Last year, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General K. C. Brown, was fired, as was the chief of naval operations and the vice chief of staff of the Air Force. The personnel changes come at a time of heightened tension over the Iran war. The United States is currently deploying additional naval units to the Middle East to enforce a blockade against the Islamic Republic.
