Iran refuses personal talks with the US: the country's Foreign Ministry made a statement

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh said there would be no further face-to-face peace talks with the United States until Washington changes its “maximalist” demands. Last week, U.S. and Iranian delegations held talks in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, but they lasted less than a day and no agreement was reached.

Earlier this week, the White House said a second round of talks would likely take place in the same city, with Pakistan as a key mediator between the two countries. But Saeed Khatibzadeh said Iran was looking to complete a “framework agreement” before moving on to another meeting.

“We have not yet reached the level of moving to an actual meeting, as there are issues on which the Americans have not yet abandoned their maximalist position,” he said at a diplomatic forum in Turkey.

However, according to Khatibzadeh, the parties have exchanged messages in recent days.

He added that Iran would not transfer its enriched uranium to the United States, calling the idea “unrealistic.”

In addition, Iran announced a complete closure of the Strait of Hormuz until the US naval blockade is lifted, the IRGC Navy said. The terms of the shipping restrictions were not specified.

Despite this, Trump continues to optimistically state that he “expects a deal with Iran in a day or two.”
