It is very possible that the US will make a deal with Iran before the king's visit, – Trump

Donald Trump has said a deal with Iran “very likely” will be reached by the time King Charles III visits the US later this month. Speaking to Sky News US correspondent Mark Stone, he said: “It's possible. Very likely. They've been beaten very badly. It's very likely.”

Stone asked the US president about the state of the “special relationship” with the UK, which, according to Trump, “has gotten better.”

“What kind of relationship? It's a relationship where when we asked them for help, they weren't there. When we needed them, they weren't there. And they still aren't there,” the president replied.

This came after Trump called on the UK and other NATO allies to participate militarily in the US-Israeli war in Iran, in particular to help secure the vital Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has effectively blocked with attacks on shipping since the start of the war in late February, writes Sky News.

The UK government has allowed the US to use British bases for defensive operations and strikes, and Trump has previously been criticised for his rhetoric about allies not supporting America, despite NATO troops dying in wars such as Iraq and Afghanistan since 9/11.

As correspondent Laura Bundock reported, the king and queen's four-day visit to the United States in late April will include a state dinner at the White House and a visit to New York to honor the victims of September 11. The king will also address Congress — becoming the second British monarch to do so.

However, a Buckingham Palace source said that members of the royal family will not meet any of the victims of sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
