Donald Trump did not comment on Viktor Orban's defeat in the Hungarian elections, but he lashed out with sharp criticism at Pope Leo XIV. As Razom for Ukraine media advisor Ostap Yarysh writes on Facebook, in his statement on the social network Truth Social, the US president used a number of harsh words against the head of the Vatican.

“Pope Leo is weak on crime and terrible on foreign policy. He talks about 'fear' of the Trump administration, but doesn't mention the fear that the Catholic Church and all other Christian organizations felt during COVID, when priests, pastors and all others were arrested for holding services,” Trump wrote.

The president also compared Leo XIV to his brother Louis: “I like his brother Louis much more, because Louis is completely for MAGA. He understands everything, and Leo doesn't!”

Trump stressed that he does not want to see a Pope who “considers it normal for Iran to have nuclear weapons” or criticizes American military actions: “I do not want a Pope who thinks it is terrible that America attacked Venezuela. And I do not want a Pope who criticizes the President of the United States for doing exactly what I was elected to do!”
As Ostap Yarysh writes, in his post, Trump also hinted that Leo XIV owed his place in the Vatican to him: “Leo should be grateful. He was put in this position only because he is American, and the church thought this was the best way to work with President Donald J. Trump. If I were not in the White House, Leo would not be in the Vatican.”
Trump concluded his address by calling on the Pope to “stop appeasing the radical left” and “focus on being a great Pope, not a politician.”

An hour after these statements, Trump posted on social media an image of himself as Jesus healing a sick man. This sparked a new wave of discussion, especially considering that Vice President J.D. Vance converted to Catholicism several years ago and is preparing to publish a book about his journey to faith.
