The USA has declared the institution of a sea-based barrier around Iranian seaports. It will come into effect on April 13 at 10:00 AM Eastern Time (17:00 Kyiv time).
This information was relayed by the US Central Command (CENTCOM).
As per the statement, CENTCOM personnel will begin enacting a shutdown of all ocean-going transit entering or exiting Iranian seaports. This determination was reached in line with the declaration of the US President.
The cordon will be uniformly applied to vessels of every nation proceeding toward or departing Iranian ports and coastal areas. This comprises all Iranian ports located in the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman.
Concurrently, the American military underscored that they would not obstruct the freedom of passage through the Strait of Hormuz for vessels en route to or leaving ports within other nations.
Further details for civilian mariners will be dispensed through official communications prior to the blockade. Vessels are also encouraged to observe advisories and liaise with the US Navy via international channel 16 whilst in the area.
Aborted talks between Iran and the US: recent updates
As a reminder, US Vice President J.D. Vance journeyed to Islamabad, Pakistan, for discussions with Iran. The American contingent also featured special representative Steve Witkoff and Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner.
Vance marked the highest-ranking US functionary to partake in parleys on Iran in recent decades.
Notwithstanding this stature of participants, the US and Iran concluded several hours of dialogues in Pakistan without achieving a consensus.
