On Tuesday, certain representatives from the Democratic Party urged the ouster of US President Donald Trump due to his threats directed at Iran, as reported by The Hill.

“Donald Trump is openly making threats of war crimes against the whole Iranian nation. The 25th Amendment procedure should be commenced without delay, however, if the Cabinet lacks courage, the House of Representatives ought to immediately launch the impeachment process,” Congresswoman Diana DeGette posted on the X social platform, reacting to Trump’s declaration.

Senator Ed Markey urged the House of Representatives to initiate impeachment actions, deeming the president’s pronouncements “thoroughly unwise and perilous.”

“The House must impeach and the Senate must depose a president keen on carrying out war crimes. We can’t simply stand by while Donald Trump is threatening to annihilate an entire civilization,” Markey stated.

The White House reacted by branding the Democrats’ assertions as “pitiful.”

“Democrats began discussing the potential of removing President Trump even before his inauguration. Congressional Democrats are insufficient, feeble, and unproductive, which accounts for their historically poor approval numbers,” claimed White House representative Davis Ingle.

On Tuesday morning, Trump posted on Truth Social that “the entire civilization will vanish tonight and never recover” should Iran fail to heed requests to open up a vital maritime route. This came after his threats over the weekend and on Monday to target Iranian bridges and energy installations — which global experts believe could equate to a war crime.

Democrats are indicating both the 25th Amendment and impeachment as feasible means to relieve Trump of his duties.

“25th Amendment IMMEDIATELY! Trump is excessively erratic, risky, and inept to be in possession of nuclear access codes!” Congressman Mark Pocan penned.

The 25th Amendment to the US Constitution, which governs the handover of presidential authorities, stipulates that the vice president and a majority within the Cabinet may declare the president incapable of fulfilling his obligations, thus transferring power to an acting president.

If the president contests such a judgment, the issue is passed onto Congress, which holds the authority to uphold the decision with a two-thirds vote from both the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Nonetheless, throughout history, neither the Vice President nor the Cabinet has ever officially declared the president as unable to perform his duties.

Impeachment necessitates a plain majority vote within the House of Representatives in conjunction with a two-thirds Senate vote to convict and remove the president from his position — an undertaking Trump is already conversant with, having undergone impeachment on two occasions, yet evading removal.

“Following the bombing of a school, resulting in the death of young girls, a war criminal dwelling in the White House now threatens genocide. The time has come to enact the 25th Amendment. This man should be ousted from his post,” Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib stated.

“This serves as the purpose for which the 25th Amendment and impeachment were designed. This transcends a political disagreement — it threatens atrocities,” Congresswoman Melanie Stansbury asserted. “The moment has come to invoke the 25th Amendment. However, we are unable to accomplish this alone — we require Republican backing for the wellbeing of this nation and the world.”

Certain Democrats opted not to specify which mechanism they favored, but placed emphasis on the necessity to remove Trump.

“This represents a frightful threat of genocidal war crimes. The lives of both civilian and military personnel are jeopardized. Congress must prevent this war and dismiss Trump from the White House,” Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley declared.

Congresswomen Summer Lee, Andrea Salinas, and Bonnie Watson Coleman similarly advocated for the president’s dismissal.

House Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries stopped short of recommending Trump’s removal, but commented, “The time has arrived for every Republican to prioritize the nation’s welfare over party allegiances and put an end to this frenzy.”

Democrats intend to introduce a resolution to curb Trump’s capacity to initiate war against Iran once Congress reconvenes the following week.
