As per a CNN source with knowledge of the matter, US President Donald Trump has dismissed Pam Bondi from her role as attorney general. Todd Blanch, the Deputy Attorney General, will temporarily assume her responsibilities.
Via Truth Social, the president conveyed that Bondi would be “transitioning to a greatly needed and significant new post in the private sector,” while praising her contributions to his administration but refraining from specifying grounds for her dismissal.
“Pam Bondi is a remarkable American patriot and a dependable friend who has diligently served as my Attorney General for the previous year. Pam has excelled in spearheading a major crackdown on crime throughout our nation, resulting in a murder rate that has declined to its lowest point since 1900,” Trump stated.
Trump had reportedly been weighing the option of dismissing Bondi with confidants in recent days, and on Wednesday, he addressed the situation with her personally, according to sources. During their exchange, which one source characterized as “challenging,” Trump made it clear that Bondi’s tenure was limited and that a replacement would be named imminently.
Sources revealed that Bondi was informed of a future job offer. During their discussion, Trump purportedly considered appointing her to a judicial position, according to two sources.
Sources suggest that Trump’s discontent with Bondi stems from several factors. Specifically, he is reportedly displeased with her handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files and what he perceives as a lack of sufficient initiative in probing and prosecuting his political rivals.
