On Wednesday, the United States cancelled the limitations against the acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez, Reuters informs, referencing information from the Treasury Department.
The administration of President Donald Trump has been actively communicating with the interim government led by Rodriguez, a previous vice president and an associate of Maduro. The United States dispatched energy and interior secretaries to Caracas along with prospective investors, negotiated an arrangement to market Venezuelan petroleum, authorized modifications to the oil and mining industries to entice overseas capital, and offered easing of restrictions.
In March, Washington formally acknowledged Rodriguez as the head of the country, clearing the route for her administration to reopen embassies and consulates within the United States and regain authority over Venezuelan firms internationally.
Rodriguez hailed the verdict, expressing on X that it constituted “a stride towards the normalization and reinforcement of bonds between our nations.”
“We are confident that this advancement will permit the repeal of existing limitations against our nation and will enable us to formulate and ensure a practical schedule of reciprocal collaboration for the advantage of our citizens,” she commented.
The declaration regarding the lifting of limitations followed reports that the Rodriguez government was getting ready to assume command of the directorates of US branches of the state oil corporation PDVSA, including Citgo Petroleum.
Citgo, Venezuela’s crucial asset overseas, has been under the oversight of supervisory boards designated by the now defunct opposition parliament since 2019.
Earlier accounts suggested that Rodriguez was intending to journey to the United States to confer with Trump; however, despite connections with prominent delegations from other nations, she has yet to personally encounter any head of state in her current role.
Numerous high-ranking officials from Maduro’s administration are under limitations, and certain individuals among them, such as Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello and the recent Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino, face accusations of narcotics trafficking and other offenses, which they refute.
While neither Rodriguez nor her brother Jorge, who presides over the National Assembly, have been officially indicted in the US, the Trump administration is reportedly discreetly constructing a judicial case against her to amplify its sway in Caracas.
