The EU Enlargement Commissioner, Marta Cos, has expressed plainly that Kyiv’s aspirations of becoming an EU member by the beginning of the coming year are unattainable. As reported by Politico, she emphasized that peace and modifications are paramount.
“Everyone present in this room comprehends that Ukraine cannot achieve EU membership by January 1, 2027,” she stated at the Competitive Europe Summit.
Concurrently, Kos pointed out that Ukraine constitutes a vital EU ally in innovation, defense, and other crucial domains that can assist Europe in terms of worldwide competitiveness.
“Firstly, peace is necessary — this is crucial — subsequently, we require transformations… investors will only come to Ukraine, as you know, if they can initially generate profits and if their investments are secure,” she appended.
Previously, Kos indicated that all six negotiation clusters concerning Ukraine’s incorporation into the European Union have been informally initiated. According to the European Commissioner, Kyiv was furnished with “a distinct inventory of tasks for prospective technical endeavors in the areas of the rule of law and democratic institutions, the internal market and external affairs.”
