The administration of President Donald Trump will obligate individuals from 50 nations to deposit a $15,000 surety to seek entry into the United States. Since assuming his position last January, the president has executed a rigid immigration strategy that encompasses a forceful deportation initiative, cancellations of visas and green cards, along with scrutiny of social media.
A State Department official divulged the novel directives, speaking anonymously and cited by Reuters, stating that 12 nations were being appended to an existing roster of 38 other countries, predominantly from Africa.
The broadened visa bond initiative, demanding foreign citizens remit $15,000 for a B1 or B2 visa intended for professional journeys and leisure purposes, becomes operative on April 2. The objective is to deter visitors from exceeding the duration of their visas.
Among the additional nations incorporated into the Visa Waiver Program are Cambodia, Ethiopia, Georgia, Grenada, Lesotho, Mauritius, Mongolia, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Papua New Guinea, Seychelles, and Tunisia.
The official conveyed that the sum will be reimbursed to those who adhere to visa stipulations by returning to their homeland, or opt not to travel.
Organizations advocating for human rights have denounced Trump’s immigration and travel protocols, alleging they diminish assurances of due process and freedom of expression. The president and his associates contend that these actions aim to reinforce domestic security.
In the preceding June, he enacted a travel prohibition that wholly or partially impeded citizens from 19 nations from entering the United States due to national security apprehensions. A State Department representative indicated that the visa exemption arrangement had curtailed the volume of individuals overstaying their visas.
The preceding compilation encompassed 38 nations: Algeria, Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Bangladesh, Benin, Bhutan, Botswana, Burundi, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Côte d'Ivoire, Cuba, Djibouti, Dominica, Fiji, Gabon, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kyrgyzstan, Malawi, Mauritania, Namibia, Nepal, Nigeria, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Togo, Tonga, Turkmenistan, Tuvalu, Uganda, Vanuatu, Venezuela, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
