A pilotless aircraft was discovered within a lignite excavation site near Konin, in the Greater Poland Province. Polish authorities surmise it could be one of the unmanned vehicles that breached the nation’s air domain last September, as per a report from PAP, referencing the Polish police force.
The finding was communicated to law enforcement following 11 a.m. on Thursday. A worker at the quarry located the drone in a hollow near a rural route. As stated by the police, the situation resulted in no injuries.
According to Maciej Świętcychowski, a representative from the Greater Poland Province Police, experts are scrutinizing the drone’s origins.
“We will examine the drone’s classification and the circumstances surrounding its appearance in this locale to gain a full comprehension of the occurrences,” he articulated.
The police detailed that the drone possessed a triangular form and a white hue. Its condition was almost undamaged. Initial assessments hint that it may be a drone intended for military purposes.
Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of National Defense in Poland, Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, conveyed that the leader of the Operational Command of the Armed Forces had already briefed him about the event. He mentioned that the military police and the regular police are jointly undertaking the inquiry.
The minister also stated that Sweden had documented an intrusion into its airspace by a drone, supposedly performing tasks for the advantage of “adversaries originating from the east.”
As per private information obtained from individuals associated with the Polish Ministry of Defense, the unearthed drone might be associated with those that entered Polish airspace during the night spanning September 9-10, 2025.
In that period, several drones impacted Polish territory, with some being brought down by NATO’s aerial defense.
In the weeks that ensued, military and intelligence services conducted searches for their debris. The majority of the drones were recovered within the Lublin Province, with others located in the Świętokrzyskie, Masovian, Łódź, and Warmian-Masurian regions.
