On Wednesday, the 11th of March, a couple of Iranian unmanned aerial vehicles crashed in proximity to Dubai International Airport.
This is being reported by Sky News, together with The Times of Israel.
Based on information from local officials, four foreign individuals sustained injuries. Two citizens of Ghana and one from Bangladesh received minor wounds. An Indian citizen incurred injuries of a moderate nature.
Air operations are proceeding as usual, the government emphasized.
Airlines cancel flights to Dubai
Nevertheless, the Dutch carrier KLM has opted to halt all its flights to Dubai until March 28 as a consequence of “sustained geopolitical turbulence in the Middle East,” Sky News indicates. However, flights remain operational to transport stranded passengers back home.
This action follows the Iranian drone event from earlier this morning. The news outlet mentions that a significant portion of airspace in the Middle East, including Qatar, has been shut down since the start of the dispute. Airlines have called off, delayed, and changed the paths of thousands of flights due to concerns regarding missiles and unmanned aircraft.
Iran's attack on the UAE
On February 28, as Iran initiated a counterattack in response to the Israeli and US operation, significant detonations occurred in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. A US military installation in the UAE capital became the target of an Iranian missile strike.
However, a person of Asian descent lost their life during the ballistic interception. According to authorities in Abu Dhabi, fragments from the intercepted missile landed in a residential zone of the city.
Following the intense blasts and air defense maneuvers, Dubai was briefly without aviation activity. The well-known vacation destination’s airports suspended their operations. Notably, Dubai International Airport, which handles between 2,000 and 2,500 flight arrivals and departures each day.
