With augmented vigilance in the Middle East, Western nations are enhancing their naval might in the area. The USA could potentially send another aircraft carrier, while France and the UK are readying their own vessels for a potential mission.

Forbes reports on this.

The USS George HW Bush (CVN-77), a nuclear-fueled Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, recently finalized pre-deployment drills. The Pentagon has yet to verify if the vessel will be deployed to the Middle East in support of Operation Epic Fury.

The COMPTUEX exercises scrutinized the readiness of the carrier strike group and accompanying ships to function collectively in demanding combat circumstances. Rear Admiral Alexis Walker clarified that these exercises are a certification phase that affirms the strike group’s aptitude to execute extensive operations in any global location.

Currently, two US aircraft carriers are present in the Middle East. The USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72), which is operating in the region, and the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78), the largest vessel in the US Navy, recently traversed the Suez Canal and entered the Red Sea. Experts indicate that this marks the first instance in almost a year that two American carrier strike groups have been stationed in the Middle East simultaneously.

Specialists speculate that the USS George HW Bush may ultimately relieve one of these vessels, as their period in the operational zone has already extended beyond the anticipated timeframe.

Simultaneously, the United Kingdom has accelerated preparations for the aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales. The vessel has been assigned a five-day response timeframe for a likely deployment. It remains unclear if it will proceed to the Mediterranean or another site within the region. A second British aircraft carrier, HMS Queen Elizabeth, is currently undergoing servicing in Scotland.

Notwithstanding discussions surrounding the possible involvement of British ships, US President Donald Trump has mentioned that Washington does not necessarily require their assistance for the ongoing operation. Concurrently, the British Ministry of Defence declared additional measures to reinforce its presence in the region – specifically, the deployment of Eurofighter Typhoon and F-35 Lightning II fighter aircraft, air defense systems, and an expanded military force in Cyprus.

The definitive trajectory of HMS Prince of Wales after its prospective departure to sea is presently not being disclosed.

How France and Spain are bolstering the defense of allies

Previously, French President Emmanuel Macron communicated the dispatch of the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, an air component, and escort ships to the Mediterranean Sea amidst the worsening situation in the Middle East.

Macron stated that the French vessels would undertake missions to ensure maritime security and steadiness near the Strait of Hormuz. As per his statement, the mission is inherently defensive.

The President affirmed that Paris must uphold its duties to allies in the region and assure their protection.

We will also recall the frigate from Spain. They resolved to dispatch the ship “Cristóbal Colón” there. It is scheduled to head to Cyprus following the attacks by Iran on the British base.
