On Monday, March 9, Iran once more fired a guided rocket in the direction of Turkey. The airborne target was intercepted within the nation's air space.

This is conveyed in a declaration by the Turkish Defense Ministry.

“A guided rocket discharged from Iran that entered Turkish airspace was eliminated by NATO aerial and rocket defense elements positioned in the Eastern Mediterranean,” the declaration indicated.

It is pointed out that fragments of the weaponry landed in an unpopulated region in Gaziantep. According to the Turkish ministry, there were no casualties following the event.

Ankara underscored the significance of “amicable relationships and regional constancy,” but is prepared to act against dangers to the country.

“We reiterate that all essential actions will be undertaken decisively and without hesitation against any menace aimed at the land and airspace of our nation. We remind all that paying attention to Turkey's cautions on this issue is in everyone's best interests,” the declaration added.

Attack on Turkey

On the afternoon of March 4, Iran launched its initial guided rocket towards Turkey. The airborne object traversed Iraqi and Syrian airspace. It was taken down in the Eastern Mediterranean. Ankara announced discussions with NATO and other allies after the circumstance.

However, Iran refuted launching a guided rocket in the direction of Turkey . Tehran affirmed that the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran respect the independence of a “neighboring and amicable country.”

At the same time, NATO expressed its condemnation of the Iranian “assault” on its member country. However, the Alliance considers that the circumstance does not represent reasons for the implementation of Article 5 concerning collective defense.

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth also substantiated NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte's comments that this strike by Iran will not constitute a cause for the implementation of Article 5 of the Washington Treaty on Collective Defense.
