This marks the initial instance in YouGov’s survey history where backing for ICE’s abolition has hit 50%, representing the culmination of a consistent surge since January amidst the stringent immigration strategies enacted by US President Donald Trump’s administration.
While Democrats largely advocated for ICE’s disbandment in a fresh survey, it also signifies a “new peak” among unaffiliated voters, where 52% are supportive of the proposal.
A majority of Republicans (68%) continue to oppose the dismantling of ICE, although a recent survey unveiled a record rise in the proportion of Republicans indicating support for abolishing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement , reaching 23%.
Even among Americans who do not favor the elimination of ICE, there is considerable backing for curtailing the authority of immigration officers.
Three-quarters of participants express the view that ICE personnel should be required to wear uniforms identifying them as Immigration and Customs Enforcement staff , with a mere 14% dissenting.
The vast majority of representatives from various parties endorse the uniform mandate – 92% of Democrats, 57% of Republicans, and 77% of independents.
A majority of Americans (59%) are of the opinion that ICE agents should not be permitted to wear masks concealing their faces, encompassing 87% of Democrats and 68% of independents.
Republicans exhibit greater support for the concept of immigration personnel donning masks: 65% believe ICE operatives should have the option to obscure their faces, in contrast to 20% who disagree.
The YouGov web-based survey was administered to 1,515 U.S. adults from February 27 to March 2. The margin of error is approximately 3.4%.
