Norway’s Head of Government, Jonas Gahr Støre, has given his reaction to the declaration made by U.S. President Donald Trump, who claimed that NATO “has rendered the United States no benefit.” He emphasized that the declarations of the American leader ring “utterly unconvincing,” reports Radio Liberty.

“Upon my initial encounter with the president, I made direct eye contact and conveyed the importance for the Norwegian Prime Minister to state explicitly to the U.S. President: a mere 100 kilometers from my boundary resides the planet’s most extensive nuclear arsenal. Moreover, this is not aimed at me, Mr. President, but rather directed towards you. Thus, it is crucial that we keep tabs on these submarines,” stated Støre.

He mentioned that Norway possesses knowledge of when Russian submarines depart from their harbor and when the Russians conduct trials of their latest weapons platforms. This data is then furnished to the United States. He underlined that mutual defense isn’t a handout, but is established upon the foundation of mutual advantage.

“Consequently, I must voice that it comes across as wholly improbable when the American president asserts that all efforts are for NATO’s sake, with NATO providing nothing in exchange. This is simply inaccurate,” expressed the Norwegian Head of Government.

In a previous instance, Trump dispatched a resentful communication to Støre, intertwining the matter of Greenland with the Nobel Peace Prize, articulating that he no longer felt “compelled to solely contemplate peace.”
