Deadly option for the Kremlin: expert on the threat of Russia using chemical weapons

Major General in the Reserve, Deputy Minister of Defense (2022−2023) Vladimir Gavrylov believes that Russia's use of chemical weapons against the civilian population is unlikely. Moreover, it could have fatal consequences for it.

“I don't think there will be any use of chemical weapons, especially against civilians. Russia is a member of the international convention on the prohibition of chemical weapons. Violation is also an element of death, then a lot of external additional mechanisms are activated,” said Gavrilov. “The Russians used chemical substances on the front that are used to disperse demonstrations or during anti-terrorist operations. They are not prohibited, but they have limited use. They tried to use them locally on the front, but this is not effective.”

Gavrilov believes that in modern warfare, when few people are present in the combat zone at all, the use of chemical weapons is a big question mark.

“Against the civilian population, this can only be compared to nuclear weapons. I don't think the Russians are even thinking about it, this option is also deadly for them,” the major general summed up.

It was previously reported that the Russians are dropping toxic substances from drones. A capsule with a concentrated CS (irritant) warhead, a highly toxic irritant, was found in one of the drones.
