Polish President Karol Nawrocki has offered strong criticism regarding the European Union’s direction, deeming the assembly of 27 nations a “waning star,” while simultaneously affirming his backing for the concept of European integration, reports Euronews.
Addressing the diplomatic community, Nawrocki articulated his opposition to the European Green Deal, the EU-Mercosur commercial agreement, inclinations toward excessive central control, and the prevailing migration strategy. He conveyed his desire to witness “a robust Poland within a flourishing European Union.”
“I am persuaded that Poland ought to be at the vanguard of the European Union reform movement – accessible to all nations that dissent from the continuation of the present course, yet concurrently do not wish to be categorized amongst the adversaries of the very notion of a unified Europe,” stated Nawrocki.
During the discourse with diplomats, Navrotsky turned his attention specifically to the subject of “Russian imperialism.” He asserted that one of Russia's objectives, beyond oppressing its own populace, encompasses territorial enlargement, widespread killings, and attacks on non-military targets, notably hospitals and educational institutions.
“Poland, sharing centuries-long borders with Russia, possesses a heightened awareness of the menace emanating from Moscow,” the president emphasized.
According to him, Russia will not relinquish its ambitions for further expansion even following the conclusion of the conflict against Ukraine.
“Only the augmentation of the defense strengths of all allies and our solidarity can restrain Russia,” Navrotsky remarked.
Previously, Nawrocki has frequently voiced disapproval of the EU and Ukraine’s policies. Even prior to his appointment in June 2025, he endorsed an eight-point proclamation initiated by Sławomir Menzen of the far-right Confederation coalition, wherein, notably, he declared his resolve to resist Ukraine's entry into NATO and prevent the dispatch of Polish military personnel to Ukraine.
During a particular engagement with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Navrotsky reproached him for showing a lack of gratitude towards Poland.
