Heritage at risk: Tutankhamun's famous tomb may soon collapse

An international team of researchers is sounding the alarm.

The famous tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun in the Valley of the Kings is at risk of collapse, reports a correspondent for the online publication Belnovosti.

According to a publication in the scientific journal NPJ Heritage Science, the age of the monument and external factors led to the formation of dangerous cracks in the stone vaults.

The main danger is posed by a large crack running through the ceiling of the entrance corridor and the burial chamber.

Rainwater seeps in through it, creating increased humidity.

Experts explain that the local shale rock used to construct the walls expands and contracts with changes in humidity, which exacerbates the deterioration.

In addition, scientists fear a repeat of the 1994 scenario, when a flood led to the growth of fungus, damaging the unique frescoes.

Experts are calling for immediate protective measures and rigorous scientific research to save the world-famous monument.
