Botswana's President Threatens Germany to Ship 20,000 Elephants

Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi threatened Berlin with sending a shocking gift to Germany – a shipment of 20,000 elephants.

He promised to do this after German authorities announced their desire to introduce stricter restrictions on the import of hunting trophies.

The TASS news agency, citing the BBC, reports on an unusual incident from the world of animals and politics.

We would like to make such a gift to Germany, the leader of the elephant-rich African country said publicly.

The head of state emphasized that what he said was by no means a joke, and he would not accept Germany’s refusal to accept the gift.

Germans should live together with animals the way you are trying to teach us, Mr. Masisi explained his position.

Incidentally, as of today, there are 130,000 elephants roaming free in Botswana, that is, in the wild, which is a third of the world's population.

For local farmers, the animals are a constant headache, as they destroy crops on their property.

Therefore, the local people began to call more and more loudly for an artificial reduction in the elephant population.

Botswana authorities believe that the problem is exacerbated by restrictions on elephant hunting and the import of hunting trophies introduced by some Western countries.

And here it is worth mentioning the following fact: in the European Union, Germany is the largest importer of elephant hunting trophies.
