Almost 440 individuals in Indonesia, Thailand, and Sri Lanka have perished due to the floods and mudslides, with hundreds unaccounted for.

This was communicated by the disaster management agencies of the respective nations, as reported by the Latin American television network Telesur.

In Thailand, 145 lives were lost, with water reaching levels of three meters. In both Thailand and Indonesia, relief workers are operating under challenging circumstances because of power outages and communication breakdowns in certain regions.

In Sri Lanka, at least 123 people have died while over 130 remain missing. Floods have affected approximately 400,000 residents there, forcing more than 40,000 to leave their residences.

Local governing bodies are cautioning that the number of deaths might climb as rescue teams still struggle to access numerous locations, attributing the disaster’s scope to alterations in the climate.

The protracted monsoon downpours, compounded by a passing tropical cyclone, made the situation worse.

As a reminder, the powerful cyclone Claudia triggered severe weather across Portugal, sections of Spain, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. The inclement conditions resulted in three deaths and injuries to dozens.
