Corey Lewandowski will take on a role as “senior adviser,” according to the Trump campaign.

Donald J. Trump’s campaign is bringing Corey Lewandowski, his first 2016 campaign manager who was fired during that cycle, onto its staff, along with a small group of new additions for the final push of the 2024 race, the former president and his top advisers said in a statement.

Mr. Lewandowski will take on a role as “senior adviser,” according to the Trump campaign. His exact purview is unclear, beyond advising senior leadership.

Mr. Trump, in a post on his social media site, sought to tamp down questions about whether Mr. Lewandowski’s arrival was a reflection on how he feels about his current top aides, who have faced a steady stream of attacks from various corners outside the campaign.

“The enthusiasm is great, and the management team, headed up by Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita, is the best,” Mr. Trump wrote, variously writing in all capital letters. “Many people want to join the campaign for the final push, some from the first two campaigns — and we want as many as we can get!”

Mr. Lewandowski’s hiring was reported earlier by Politico.

In a statement, Ms. Wiles and Mr. LaCivita said the campaign was also adding Alex Pfeiffer, who had worked at the main pro-Trump super PAC, Make American Great Again Inc., along with Tim Murtaugh, who worked on the 2020 campaign, and Alex Bruesewitz, a consultant. Another top official, Taylor Budowich, recently rejoined the campaign after running the MAGA Inc. super PAC.

“As we head into the homestretch of this election, we are continuing to add to our impressive campaign team,” Ms. Wiles and Mr. LaCivita said, noting that all five additions were “veterans of prior Trump campaigns and their unmatched experience will help President Trump prosecute the case against Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.”
