An investigation into the case of obituaries glorifying Adolf Hitler that was put up on the facade of the Sofia Synagogue on Saturday was launched by the Bulgarian prosecutor’s office on Wednesday.

The incident was reported by the Shalom Organization of Jews in Bulgaria and the Central Israeli Spiritual Council.

“The investigation should identify the perpetrators and find whether there are witnesses and video recordings relevant to the case,” the prosecutor’s office reported

“56 years have passed since the death of Adolf Hitler (died aged 56). The Führer’s spiritual presence ended our suffering and anguish. He was abandoned like no other on this earth. Today, his spirit haunts the homes of white people in Europe. He will always be with us wherever we go,” read the obituary.

The Shalom organisation commented on the case with “tremendous indignation and concern”.

“At the end of the Shabbat holiday for all Jews and at a time when prayers were still being held in the synagogue, masked persons pasted obituaries glorifying Adolf Hitler and Nazism on the gates of the synagogue,” the organisation said.

The synagogue in Sofia is located in the very centre of the capital, near the mosque and the church of “St Sunday”.
